LyondellBasell Summer Interns Provide Real World Industry Experience

CINCINNATI, Ohio – August 17, 2017 – Working with the American Chemical Society, LyondellBasell, one of the world’s largest plastics, chemical and refining companies hosted three undergraduate chemistry and chemical engineering scholars this summer. The paid internships were sponsored by the Society of Chemical Industry (SCI), a forum that connects science to the business world.

LyondellBasell’s Cincinnati Technology Center, Houston Technology Center, and Clinton Iowa Complex participated in the program.  

“LyondellBasell provides interns with real world industry experience,” said Chuck Holland, LyondellBasell Cincinnati Technology Center. “Students gain valuable insight into everything from statistical analysis to professional collaboration.”

The Cincinnati Technology Center hosted Venice Magunga, an undergraduate at University of Rochester majoring in chemical engineering.

“My internship at LyondellBasell was a very prosperous experience,” said Magunga. I gained invaluable real world experience working with excellent engineers performing testing and analysis of different resins.”

The Cincinnati Technology Center is a research and development center for LyondellBasell’s North American polymers business. The facility develops efficient and effective polymer materials for customer applications and provides solutions that reduce manufacturing costs by optimizing the operation of polymer processing equipment.

To be eligible for the scholarship, students must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and demonstrate strong critical thinking skills, personal initiative and perseverance, adaptability, and flexibility.
