HOUSTON – May 23, 2018 – The Houston Refinery of LyondellBasell, one of the world’s largest plastics, chemicals and refining companies, received honors for its support of a historic site in Pasadena, Texas. The staff earned the 2018 Industry of the Year Award for its work at the Crown Hill Cemetery.
“We appreciate all of the support and volunteer hours Refinery employees have dedicated to improving the final resting place of some of our earliest Pasadena citizens,” said Mike Murphy, president of the Crown Hill Cemetery Association. “Recognizing the Refinery with this award is our way of saying thank you and demonstrating how much we value their contributions.”
The Refinery donated material and labor to update a storage building, install new benches and trim trees, helping beautify the cemetery’s grounds.
“The cemetery is a tangible link to the past and it’s vital we preserve it,” said Jerome Mauvigney, site manager of LyondellBasell's Houston Refinery. “The cemetery is more than just a piece of land, it’s a legacy and without these historic landmarks, we won’t know who we are.”
Employee volunteers will continue restoration work in September during LyondellBasell’s Global Care Day, that’s the day where the more than 50 LyondellBasell sites around the world take part in a day of service.
The Crown Hill Cemetery was established in 1906. Today, close to 400 markers identify burial places of Pasadena citizens. For more information, visit http://crownhillcemeteryassociation.com/.
