HOUSTON, Texas – August 21, 2017 – Employees from the LyondellBasell Houston Refinery hosted a visit today by United States Congressman Gene Green (D-TX). During his stop, the congressman and his staff were briefed on the site’s operations and met with LyondellBasell’s Executive Vice President of Global Manufacturing, Projects, Refining and Technology Dan Coombs, plant manager Jerome Mauvigney and other employees.
“I’m honored to have Congressman Green spend part of his day at our Houston Refinery to showcase our unrelenting focus on safety, operational excellence and, most importantly, our dedicated employees,” said Mauvigney. “We appreciate having an advocate like Congressman Green in Washington who understands the importance of manufacturing to our competitiveness and economy.”
Congressman Green received a tour of the facility to learn more about daily operations at the refinery before engaging in a town hall meeting with workers from the site. Green has been a long-time champion of the energy and petrochemical industry and during his visit discussed tax, trade and regulatory policies impacting the Houston Refinery.
“It was great to return to LyondellBasell’s Houston Refinery to see their impressive facility and meet with employees to discuss issues that are important to them,” said Congressman Green. “I appreciate LyondellBasell’s efforts to promote safety in the workplace and glad to see that the refinery continues to improve fuel efficiency in the Gulf Region.”
U.S. Rep. Green represents the 29th Congressional District of Texas in which the Houston Refinery is located and sits on the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee that develops policies surrounding energy and environment that impact the refining and petrochemical industries.
LyondellBasell’s Houston Refinery employs more than 1,250 employees and contractors and is one of the largest refineries in the U.S. It has a refining capacity of 268,000 barrels per day and produces gasoline, low-sulfur diesel, jet fuel and lubricants. The products that are safely and reliably processed at the Houston Refinery are helping to advance improvements in air quality through the production of cleaner burning fuels and gasoline additives that help reduce air pollution from vehicles.
