Organization will use funds to repair buildings damaged during Hurricane Harvey

LA PORTE, Texas – Nov. 15, 2017 – LyondellBasell’s La Porte Complex today announced a $3,000 donation to Boys and Girls Harbor, a nonprofit that provides shelter, food, clothing, counseling, healthcare, recreation, and a stable family environment for children needing residential care. The contribution will help the organization paint and replace flooring in some of its eight residential buildings damaged during the hurricane.

“Many, including Boys and Girls Harbor, are still recovering from the storm’s devastation,” said Don Sweat, President and CEO of Boys and Girls Harbor. “We appreciate LyondellBasell’s generosity and their belief in what we do. The funds they’ve generously donated will help us refurbish residential buildings that house deserving children.”

“The Harbor’s work is critical to our communities because it serves some of our most vulnerable youth,” said Chris Cain, Site Manager of LyondellBasell’s La Porte Complex. “Many lives will be made better because of the resources provided by this wonderful organization.”

Annually, the nonprofit provides residential care for more than 100 children. Each residential building can accommodate up to eight children under the supervision of full-time, live-in house parents. The average age of a child living at the Harbor is 10 to 12 years, and average length of stay ranges from 11 months to three and a half years. However, some children may spend their entire childhood there.

Since its inception in 1974, thousands of children have called the Harbor their home. For more information, visit www.boysandgirlsharbor.org.
