LA PORTE, Texas – Jan. 16, 2018 – The La Porte Complex of LyondellBasell (NYSE: LYB), one of the largest plastics, chemicals and refining companies in the world, has selected 10 area non-profits to receive $40,000 in funding through its 2017 corporate grant program, established to help further the company’s mission to make a positive impact in the communities where it operates.
This year’s grant recipients represent a broad range of charitable organizations that support the community in the areas of health, safety, education and the environment.
“We are committed to being a good neighbor and place great importance on giving back,” said Chris Cain, Site Manager of LyondellBasell’s La Porte Complex. “These organizations make a real difference in improving the overall well-being of our community, and I am extremely proud that we can help advance their mission through our corporate grant program.”
Among those receiving corporate grants from LyondellBasell’s La Porte Complex are:
American Cancer Society’s (ACS) Relay for Life of Southeast Harris County – A $2,000 grant to support the fundraiser which helps ACS fight cancer through research, education, advocacy and service.
Battleship Texas Foundation – A $2,000 grant to assist with continued restoration of The Battle Ship Texas.
College of the Mainland – A $2,000 grant to provide funding for Process Technology program tutors who help lead students to success in the areas of chemistry, physics and algebra.
Harris County Sheriff’s Office – A $5,000 grant to purchase equipment for deputies assigned to the first responder tactical unit’s industrial sector.
La Porte Education Foundation –A $13,000 grant to help educators and administrators in the district replace educational materials destroyed during Hurricane Harvey. Additionally, the grant will support STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) initiatives by funding robotics programs and assisting with the purchase of iPads, tablets and 3D printers for classrooms.
La Porte Fire Department – A $5,000 grant to provide funding for the department’s smoke detector program and firefighter retention.
Markham Fire Department – A $2,000 grant to help purchase a grass truck for extinguishing grass fires, which are prevalent in the area due to large amounts of farmland and brush.
Midfield Volunteer Fire Department – A $1,000 grant to assist with purchasing thermal imaging cameras.
Mont Belvieu Fire Department – A $3,000 grant to obtain additional self-contained breathing apparatuses.
San Jacinto Museum of History – A $5,000 grant to support the 7th Annual San Jacinto Texas Independence 10K, 5K Fun Run/Walk and 1K Fun Run for Kids. Proceeds from the event help improve educational programs for Texas students.
