LyondellBasell Global Care Day Renews Commitment to Community
LANSING, MI. – Sept. 14, 2018 – LyondellBasell Lansing Business & Technology Center employees and their families spent time at the Capital City Bird Sanctuary, a 63-acre property owned by Michigan Audubon located northwest of downtown Lansing.
The group focused their efforts on various maintenance activities for Global Care Day. Now in its 19th year, the event encourages LyondellBasell staff around the world to collectively participate in community service projects.
“Our efforts were not only well received by those who enjoy this park, but our employees, spouses and children truly had a wonderful day spending time in nature,” said Matt Collier, Lansing Business & Technology Center site manager. “Although we worked hard, it was great to be outside and enjoy all the scenery and tranquility the sanctuary had to offer.”
Activities included nest box end-of-season cleaning, removal of invasive plant and tree species and trail maintenance.
“Global Care Day is one of our facility’s favorite events and we devote hours to planning and organizing before we ever pick up a weedwhacker or pair of loppers,” said Quentin Boll, volunteer coordinator. “We can provide so much manpower and expertise and help an organization that would ordinarily need weeks and a lot of extra funding to do the same type of work that we accomplished in one day.”
Over the past 19 years, approximately 30,000 LyondellBasell employees and their families have donated more than 190,000 volunteer hours in support of their communities on Global Care Day.
"We were very pleased with the volunteer effort at Capital City Bird Sanctuary; with the extra help provided by LyondellBasell volunteers, we were able to promote our conservation goals and provide better habitat for birds and other wildlife at the sanctuary,” said Linnea Rowse, Michigan Audubon Conservation Program Coordinator.
