For 28 years, LPO Site Security Coordinator and Operations Specialist, Gregg Prewitt has been an integral part of the Wings Over Houston (WOH) Special Show, a charity event that brings joy to children with special needs, giving them a day to remember surrounded by the thrill of aviation and community spirit. What began as an opportunity to give back has blossomed into a legacy of service that Gregg continues to lead.

Gregg’s involvement with the show began in 1997, when he volunteered for the first time as part of the LyondellBasell La Porte team (LPO), then known as Millennium Petrochemicals. "The first time I volunteered at the WOH Special Show was 28 years ago," Gregg recalls. "This was one of our many community events. I was just one of many volunteer workers." However, Gregg’s consistent participation did not go unnoticed. By 2006, after years of returning to the event and demonstrating a deep commitment to the cause, he was asked to take on the role of Volunteer Coordinator. “Since LPO supplied the largest number of volunteers, I was asked to coordinate all volunteers for the WOH Special Show. For the last 19 years, I’ve had the honor of being the volunteer coordinator.”

As the volunteer coordinator, Gregg has helped orchestrate a volunteer force year after year, enabling the event to host hundreds of special-needs children and their families. "What I do – along with the rest of the WOH staff – is provide the availability for talented and loving people to come and volunteer… to experience the joy of doing for others who can’t do for themselves," he explains, capturing the essence of why this event is so meaningful to him.

Each year, Gregg’s enthusiasm for the event is contagious, inspiring a large team of LyondellBasell volunteers from six different Houston-area sites to dedicate their time and energy to making the WOH Special Show a success. LYB volunteers come together to support the event in a variety of roles, from assisting with registration to helping with event logistics. “You just have to do it once,” Gregg says. “So many of the special children who come to the show have no other events all year long. Only because we volunteer can they have their special day.”

Through Gregg’s leadership and the ongoing support of employees from across Houston, the Wings Over Houston Special Show continues to be a standout event for children with special needs in the community. What started as a small act of giving has now grown into a long-standing tradition, where employees not only share their time and talents but also create lasting memories for the children that participate in the event.
