The Fifth Annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb presented by LYB was on September 11, 2024, with one of the largest crowds in the history of the event. Approximately 300 participants including Corpus Christi Plant (CCO) employees climbed 2,071 steps in remembrance of the Twin Towers. Later that week on September 14, 1,600 Coastal Bend first responders and their families attended another LYB hosted event, the First Responder Night at Whataburger Field where CCO led the pre-game parade with more than 20 agencies from the Coastal Bend region.
“The Hooks are proud to have LyondellBasell as a Community Leader supporting our Frist Responders,” said Maggie Freeborn, Director Of Business Development at Corpus Christi Hooks. “With their support we were able to make our annual 9/11 stair climb, and First Responders night bigger than we have ever had before at Whataburger Field. When fans come up to you and tell you that they had tears in their eyes while watching the First Responder parade it really shows how much of an impact can make with the support of LYB.”
LYB Safety Specialist Edward Serrata who is a Marine Corps veteran and former police officer, threw out the first pitch of the game against the Midland Rockhounds.
“First Responders Night is very personal to me,” Serrata said. “I deeply appreciate the sacrifices that these dedicated men and women make each and every day.”
Participating agencies for the First Responders events included Alice Fire Paramedics, Annaville Fire Department, Aransas Pass FD, Bishop Police Department, Corpus Christi FD & PD, CCPD-CRU, CCPD Bomb Squad, CCPD Auto Theft Task Force, Flour Bluff FD, Fulton Fire Rescue, Halo Flight, Ingleside Volunteer FD, Kingsville PD, Mathis PD, NASCC FD & PD, Nueces County Sheriff’s Office, Port Aransas PD, Portland PD, Robstown FD, Robstown ISD Police, Rockport PD & Volunteer FD, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and U.S. Navy Police.
“At LYB, safety is embedded in who we are," said Corpus Christi Site Manager Alicia Matus. "As a Hooks Community Leader, we are honored to support Coastal Bend first responders, who help to keep our communities and our people safe."
